Autumn Wish-List | Fashion

Sunday 13 September 2015

Autumn encompasses all of my favourite things. Nothing beats warm colours, cozy scarves and above all else tons and tons of layers. My style has always been very eclectic but I don't think I've ever been inspired by so many different things at once before. This year is different.
It feels like I've come across so many interesting new things and I want to incorporate them into my wardrobe!
You'll see that in my wish-list:

My School Supplies | Back to School

Saturday 5 September 2015

I promised myself I wouldn't start this post saying the terrible " It's that time of year again!" but I really don't know how else to word it. I know for most of us, going back to school is no joyous occasion, it's actually quite horrible. I haven't been able to sleep the past week thinking about it. This year is going to be especially difficult, I'm entering my senior year and that means university applications. But that's the last thing I want to write about today. Let's talk about the one okay thing about September - school supplies. I'm one of those weird people who just love school supplies. I love new notebooks and binders and pencils and pens. It's the one thing that makes this month bearable. Maybe this post will give you some ideas for your own supplies but if not you can just enjoy looking at all of the pretty things :)

Dita's Bracelet | Depop Purchase

Monday 22 June 2015

I'm a very happy girl today. I'll start by saying I've been a Dita Von Teese fan for a while now, she's been a huge role model for me. I admire so much about her, I think its a very rare thing when a person like Dita comes along.
She's done it all herself. She has always been in charge of herself and her own career, whether that means creating her burlesque shows, designing her vintage lingerie or formulating her own perfume. She's never placed her name on something she didn't have a lead role in. To this day she's never had a stylist or entourage. She's a true artist and business woman.
When I heard she had a Depop shop I was interested to see the types of items she was selling. When I saw this charm bracelet I knew it had to be mine. It's so beautiful and timeless. I really can't put it into words how much it means to me to own something that was once hers. I plan on wearing it everyday but especially to my vocal exam this week and my upcoming auditions to university this coming fall. It might help take those jitters away.
The bracelet arrived in the mail today and I can't tell you how excited I was. It wasn't the best day so it definitely brightened my day! I maybe squealed when my mom told me it had arrived..
It was wrapped in beautiful paper and smelled like perfume.
I didn't actually expect to receive a message from Dita but it made me so so happy.
I most definitely will enjoy wearing my charm bracelet.

Poppies | Fashion

Sunday 21 June 2015

I'd like to apologize in advance for these photos, I took them on my iPad so they're not the best quality.. gives em that vintage feel though right? Maybe.
I'm finally on my summer break! Words can't express how happy I am to be free.
This is one of my favourite outfits to wear. It's vintage and retro yet edgy and and not too preppy at the same time. My skirt always reminds me of fond memories of Newfoundland - one of my favourite places ever. I purchased it while on vacation there with my family at this adorable little retro store and it's become a staple in my wardrobe.  My shoes are a close second favourite, I've been searching for a pair like these for so long! T.U.K really does make the coolest shoes. My bag is my moms from the 80s, its definitely one of the best things she's given me. She's telling me as I type that it's a Perry Ellis bag.
Oh and I guess you've already noticed, but I have purple hair now! I'm in love, absolutely head over heels with it! I don't know why it took me so long to make the switch!

An Old Love | My Life

Sunday 24 May 2015

There's something very special about writing and receiving letters. I recently purchased a beautiful typewriter  - I know, very hipster of me - but I've fallen head over heels with it! The sound of typing and the ding for when you get to the end of the page makes me so happy! It's made my letter writing a little ritualistic, I take so much more time writing and I always make sure that I light a candle and play some music to get the most out of the experience. I love writing letters, I've always loved the thought of sitting down and sharing your life with someone you love in writing. I love all forms of cards and letters. My favourite part is picking out the paper and envelopes, I could spend hours looking at stationary. I have a little collection of cards I keep just in case someone is in need of congratulations or a bit of a pick me up. I always make sure to add something special to my letters and cards as well like stickers and my recently purchased Kate Spade stamp.

Now although I love writing letters I think receiving them is just as special. I've had a few pen pals in the past and have always looked forward to receiving their replies. I've kept every letter I've ever received. I think theres something special about opening a box and skimming through papers filled with thoughts and wishes from the past. I also want to have something that I could show my kids and grandkids from when I was 17. Social media and emails seem so temporary.

There wasn't much point in me writing this post but it's something thats been making me very happy recently.

Second Star to the Right | Fashion

Tuesday 12 May 2015

There's nothing I love more than a classic peter pan collar. That's why when I saw this top I knew it had to be mine. The fact that it's sleeveless makes it even better. I can already tell that these shorts are going to be a staple in my summer wardrobe. I've been looking for a pair like these for ages, they look so much better on me than the usual jean ones do. There's not much to say about this outfit, It's really quite simple but I love it all the same.

Jumper | Fashion

Sunday 12 April 2015

I felt very feminine in this outfit today. I absolutely love this jumper dress, I feel like I could see it on someone like Jean Arthur. I added my own midi skirt on top of it though because the original skirt didn't really compliment my figure, it didn't really flow out nicely. I love the simplicity of black and white and I really wanted to keep everything I was wearing quite classic. I've fallen in love with the t-shirt I'm wearing, Its so retro and so so flattering. The neckline makes this top look more retro and unique then just your average white tee. And lastly my shoes... Oh these shoes make me so happy. They're about 5" tall with a 1" platform but surprising are easy to walk in. They are so classic with the rounded toe and the thicker heel and they make my short legs look so long!!!

Plaid | Fashion

Tuesday 24 March 2015

Words cannot express how much I love these plaid pants. They're so retro and cool, I've been searching for a pair like these for ages. I must say, they remind me of something one of the members of The Strypes would wear. Its still pretty cold here so I layered my black collard shirt with one of my favourite sweaters. I was very cozy today.. except my ankles, but hey anything for fashion. Fingers crossed it will warm up soon!

My Favourite Creepers | Fashion

Sunday 22 March 2015

I must say the coolest shoes I own are definitely my leopard print creepers. I've worn them so much they're practically falling apart. Creepers aren't for everyone I know but I really do love them. I've managed to save up enough money over the past little while and have decided to buy a new pair.  After searching through the T.U.K website, these four stood out and are definitely my favourite.  I like them all for different reasons but I can't seem to make up my mind...

Pictures via T.U.K

1. Now I think these might be my favourite....maybe. They're just so cool and I love the thought of having shoes that are a combination of creepers and oxfords. I think they'd be pretty versatile with my wardrobe and I think they just fit my style perfectly. My family hates them though.. But that's never stopped me before.

2. I mean..polka dot creepers. Can you get any cuter? My mom seems to like these the best. I think I like them because they aren't too overboard and would really look cute with an all black outfit or anything really. I keep imagining them with a black midi skirt and a red retro shirt. I think I like them because they're much sweeter looking than the other ones.

3. These ones I think are a good choice because they're just really simple and plain which means they'd be extremely versatile. I like how they aren't completely black though, its nice to have a bit of a design on them. I feel like these are the most practical choice.

4. Now these are just plain fun. They really aren't something I'd usually gravitate towards but hey, why not. The Hawaiian print on them just seems like so much fun. I'm imagining wearing them in the summer with some light wash high waisted jeans and a white bustier crop top. Very fun and very retro.

Now that I've shown and explained my choices I really would appreciate your opinions. Which are your favourite?

Blue Collar Jane | Fashion

Monday 16 March 2015

Ah spring is finally here. See all that stuff behind me? That there is melting snow. I am one happy camper.
I think I'm digging the whole song title used as blog post title thing... Today's title is from Blue Collar Jane written by The Strypes. They are one of the coolest new bands out there and they also have the coolest style ever, they honestly look like little modern day teddy boys.
I kept my outfit pretty simple today, wearing my usual high waisted skinny jeans with my brother's adorable little blue shirt, my black bow neck tie, black hightop converse and of course my cbc backpack. Simple, yet the perfect combination of greaser and teddy girl.

Skater Girl | Fashion

Sunday 8 March 2015

He was a skater boy she said see ya later boy... Ah memories. That song was my jam when I was four. But enough about early (good) Avril Lavigne. Time to talk about this outfit!
First off, this is the best coat I've ever owned. It's so flattering and warm and I think it's absolutely adorable. For those of you who don't know ( I didn't before I bought it ) this type of coat is called a skater coat, it cinches in at the waist and flairs out. I chose between three colours, black, baby pink and this navy blue. I loved them all but I'm so happy I went with the navy blue!! It's more wearable than the pink but also more unique than the black. Its just a really classic looking coat and it's the coat I've been dreaming of for ages!! Highly recommended!!

In Retrospect | Fashion

Monday 2 March 2015

So I have finally found a pair of mom jeans that actually fit me!! I admit I wasn't a very big fan of them before, I thought they looked.. well... a lot like something a mom from the 90s would wear. They were definitely named correctly. But after looking through some pictures of Teddy Girls I noticed that a lot of them wore them too. They even managed to pull them off and make them look pretty cool.  I really love these ones from Topshop because they fit really nicely on top and then are looser on the bottom so they look a little more flattering than the normal ones.

Liebster Award | The Teddy Girl

Wednesday 25 February 2015

Hello Everyone!
Happy Friday! I hope your days are going well. A pretty cool thing occurred on my blog recently, the lovely Tori Ballestrin has nominated me for a Liebster Award! Now, I definitely had to check out what a Liebster Award even was (here is a very helpful article) but I think its a really great idea because it helps spread the love around and it also helps readers learn more about the bloggers they follow, which I think is pretty cool.

Here are the rules:

Thank and link the person who nominated you.
Answer the questions given by the nominator.
Nominate 11 other bloggers, who have less than 200 followers and link them.
Create 11 new questions for the nominees to answer.
Notify all nominees via social media/blogs.

So, here are Tori's questions for me with my answers:

If you could change your name to anything you wanted, what would it be?
I actually really love my name. My mom picked it for me for pretty special reasons so I don't think I would ever change it, I think it suits me.

How many pairs of shoes do you own?
Oh boy, I really love shoes! But I do try not to go overboard. I'd say altogether I have around 10..maybe. I don't really keep track of things like that.

What is another language that you would like to speak?
I'd love to speak Italian, I'd love to be able to talk to some of my relatives in Italy but it would also help immensely with my singing.

What is your favourite album?
Ahhh theres so many... I think The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths

What are you most proud of in your life so far?
Being accepted into my Arts High School

What is your natural hair texture? (eg. curly, straight, wavy, frizzy)
I guess its kinda wavy and very very frizzy.

Do you have a pet or have you had a pet in the past? What are they like?
I'm a major animal lover so I've had my fair share of pets. I've had some goldfish, a hamster, two birds and I currently have two dogs.  I've been really lucky to have had some really sweet pets. They've all had lovely personalities.

What is your favourite flavour of fruit juice?
umm Probably apple.

Chocolate or vanilla?
Vanilla. I have a very unpopular opinion that chocolate flavoured things are absolutely disgusting.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
I'd love to be able to stop time sometimes. That would be great.

You have three wishes. What do you wish for?
I thought way too long about this but here are my three wishes..

1) To have an incredibly strong friendship - I'm talking like Frodo and Sam stuff here.

2) To always have people who love and accept me in my life. And to do the same for those around me.

3) To become an opera singer. I don't need to be famous and make a lot of money but I do need to sing and be the best singer I can possibly be.

What is the one thing you can never have enough of?
Love. But for things you can actually own and hold - books and candles. You can never have too many books and candles.

I really don't know who to tag (I'm sorry I know this defeats some of the purpose!!) but I nominate whoever is reading this to answer these questions in your own post!! Consider yourselves nominated!

Here are my questions:

1. How did you come up with your blog name?
2. Which do you like best - books, music or movies?
3. What is the number on thing you look for in a friend?
4. Who is someone that inspires you?
5. What do you spend your extra money on?
6. What is one of your biggest dreams?
7. How would you describe your fashion style?
8. Favourite decade? (e.g. 50s, 80s etc..)
9. What is something you'd like to change about the world?
10.Favourite historical figure?(sorry, I'm a major history buff..)
11.What charity would you like to spread awareness about?

The Teddy Girl | Fashion

Saturday 14 February 2015

I apologize in advance for the horrible quality photos, my camera decided to go crazy so I had to use my phone instead..

So first things first. I've fallen in love with the teddy girl's fashion sense. Im thinking of doing a full post on them soon so stay tuned!! But a quick summary is that the teddy boys and girls were a subculture of working class young men and women in London during the 1950s that had a really cool unique style that mixed the normal 1950s fashion with edwardian pieces. When I saw some pictures of them (google them, you won't regret it) I thought their style was so close to mine its what Ive been dreaming of! Its the perfect combination of feminine and badass! I decided to attempt to create a modern day take on their style, so here it is and I absolutely love it!!

Red Checkered Shirt - Old Navy
Black Cardigan - Gap
Black Midi Skirt - Rosie the Rebel
Shoes - Asos
Neck Ribbon Thingy - just a strip of fabric that was hanging around...

My camera couldn't really take a decent picture of the shoes but they are so great! They have a brown tortoise shell pattern with a funky black platform heel. They'll for sure be featured in another outfit post because they're the coolest shoes I've ever owned!! Hopefully my camera will work by then! :)

Thanks so much for reading!

My 17th Birthday | Thoughts

Thursday 8 January 2015

Im writing this the night before my birthday. I have exactly two hours before I'm officially seventeen and I'm not sure how I feel about it. This is going to be a bit of a chatty post just to document how I'm feeling and maybe look back on it in the future. Kinda like a public diary.. But not.

Okay, so for some reason seventeen feels like a big number and gosh I'll be a legal adult in only a year... that's terrifying. That means that if I ever decide to break the law I'll go to court as an adult and go to prison.. adult prison. Oh and I'm also auditioning for universities next year.  Next. Year. What?!? This is very worrisome. I don't even make my own lunches yet ( I know how and stuff... but still). Seventeen just feels like its going to be an awkward in-between year. Not yet an adult,  but far from being considered a child.  So many big changes are coming and I really don't think I'm prepared. Definitely not prepared for university. At all. Im thinking of taking a gap year though so maybe I'm over thinking things...What a strange feeling to think that I'll never be sixteen again. Never. Is it bad that I feel like its all downhill from here?? Everything I'm writing right now is just me being silly but there is a bit of truth to it all. Pretty soon I'm not going to be taken care of and its just going to be me making decision that will altar the course of my life. Have I been doing that all along though? Not sure.

Oh god.. and I'll never be able to sing Sixteen Going On Seventeen the same way again.

Tell me now, how was your 17th year? Maybe give me some advise? I could use it!

My Favourites of the Month | December

Wednesday 7 January 2015

December was one of the busiest months I've had in a while. I had four weeks worth of performances and rehearsals; it was an experience filled month to say the least! But in-between all that craziness I found some amazing items! So here they are, the things I've been loving in December :

1. Bûche De Noël - Lush
Face and Body Cleanser

This is a really gentle cleanser/ exfoliater made with almonds and cranberries. Its been really cold where I live so my skin has gotten really dry and dull but this is so soothing and gentle that it exfoliates my skin while also moisturizing it with the cocoa butter thats in it. Its really made a difference which is special because not many products really help most of the time.

2. About Face Foundation - Flower

Ive continued my search for cruelty free makeup products/brands and this foundation is by far the best I've tried yet! It's really light and fresh looking but gives just enough coverage. It lasts all day and leaves your skin looking bright but not oily. Definitely a repurchase!

3. Shine Wax - Garneir Fructis
&
Pure Care Dry Oil - Dove

This cold weather has horrible effects on not only my skin but my hair too and these two products have worked perfectly. Both are super duper moisturizing but they don't leave your hair looking stringy and oily just soft and shiny.

4. Deluminator - Harry Potter

I don't think I really have to explain why this is not only a favourite of the month but of the year.. I mean just look at how cool it is! Best christmas gift ever!!!

5. The Hurting - Tears For Fears

I was introduced to this album this month and it has turned into one of my favourite albums of all time. Its all about the effects of neglect and society's carelessness towards children's fears and emotional needs, and the concequences that come from that type of abuse. My friends and I seemed to have talked a lot this month about such situations in our own lives, from dealing with angry and harmful teachers to parents who bully and torment their children. This is an album full of amazing music with an extremely important message that affected me deeply this month. We need to place the protection of youth's happiness and hopefulness over "preparing them for the real world". The "real world" would be a much better place if we put love first.

6. My Family and Friends

The best part of my month by far was getting to be with my family and friends. I was so busy with school that I didn't really get a chance to truly be with my family ( I mean I live with them but I still missed them). It was so wonderful to get to go out with my mom again and watch movies at night as a family and it was just so great to get back into the christmas spirit together. I also got to be with my friends a lot more than usual ( again, I see them everyday but I missed our long life chats). We had our christmas party as well as hung out again later on during our break. We got a chance to just talk and get some things off our chests as well as have some pretty amazing laughs. I noticed how happy I felt every time I saw them and I realized how important they are to me and how wonderful it is to have such amazingly caring, funny and intelligent friends.

Well that's it. It was a busy yet fantastic and memorable month!
